Dumeeeeeeelllllllll

We were seated tight in our seats waiting for the event that was to take place in ten minutes. Well, for all those who could not guess, there was a firing show that was to take place...!

Three people dressed in soldier apparel came with their guns. One of them was the acting chief and he ordered them the sequence of holding and loading the guns. And after 5 minutes... Shot Shot Shot... Continuous firing from the three guns.. It was amazing to see it(am still wondering how the little cutie who came with us for the tour did not cry! She is just one and a half yrs old!).

After the firing, we started for the next foto sessions. With our stomach filled with curd rice(That i had prepared :D) we did some shopping and started back for Michigan in the same cruise at around 5 30 pm(Eastern Time).

Let's call it a day! It was one among the most memorable days I had ever spent in US till date!

The Mackinac Fort

The end of the carriage tour landed us in Mackinac fort. I thought fort means, it will have statues of old leaders, guns, etc etc. But you can never guess what is there inside. It is our Chennai's Dakshin Chitra!! The 'those days' libraries, attack centers(I mean the military centers), the schools etc etc were replicated there. Wow! nice piece of work. For all those who have not visited Dakshin Chitra in Chennai, well it is a place that relives south India. It replicates the houses that existed nearly 50 years back in Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Hyderabad.

We went round the fort, took a lot of snaps and finally settled for dumeeeel dumeeel... keep guessing what i mean.. till I post my next post!

The carriage tour

We were very fortunate that we got a very jovial, jolly good driver for the carriage tour. The horses were jovial too(I can't make you understand in words what I am trying to convey). He was telling about each passing building and told us the history about it in the most interesting way possible. The horses are 2300 pounds in weight! And they can carry three-four times their weight!!!
After a brief carriage ride we settled down for lunch in the lush grassy ground and gulped our home made puris and potato fry. Yummy!
The second half of the carriage ride was not that very interesting but still it was fun the whole day. Most of the horse drivers there were students from a medical college in East Indiana. They had come here on vacation and wanted to learn about this city(island).

Mackinaw Islands

The next few posts are about our trip to Mackinaw Islands that was a very exciting and unforgettable one too. We started on Friday evening in our car and reached the place at around 12(Michigan is one hour ahead of us). We checked into our beautiful cottage like home which seemed like heaven. Cozy sofa, cozier beds and mattresses...wow! the ultimate! :)

The next day we were ready by 8, had our breakfast and started for the cruise which was scheduled for 10 am. We took snaps in between too.
As we boarded the cruise least did we know how much fun we are going to have on board and off it. The ride was so pleasant and breezy(for me). After the 25 mins sail, we reached the island. The carriage ride that followed was something which is hard to forget.
